The Diamond Guide

Everything you need to know

An Incomparable Precious Stone

Diamonds are arguably the most iconic gemstone, renowned for their beauty, rarity, and unparalleled brilliance. Choosing a diamond can seem complex with the different criteria to consider, but this guide will help you navigate through these aspects to ensure you make the best choice.

The Essential Characteristics of Diamond

Diamonds are composed almost entirely of carbon and are among the oldest materials on Earth. Here's what makes diamonds so unique:

Unmatched Hardness

Diamond is the hardest material known, scoring 10 out of 10 on the Mohs scale. Its ability to resist scratches makes it ideal for jewelry worn daily.

Exceptional Thermal Conductivity

Diamonds have a higher thermal conductivity than any other material, making them valuable not only in jewelry but also in industrial applications.

Diamonds in Jewelry

A symbol of purity, luxury, and eternity, diamonds are the most sought-after gemstones for jewelry. Their ability to refract light with exceptional intensity makes diamonds the perfect choice for pieces like engagement rings or luxury necklaces.

The 4 C’s of Diamonds: How to Evaluate Their Quality?

The 4 Cs system, developed by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), is used to evaluate the quality of diamonds. These four criteria are:

1- Carat (Weight)

Carat measures the weight of the diamond. One carat equals 0.20 grams. The price of a diamond increases exponentially with its weight.

2- Color (Color)

Diamonds are graded by color on a scale from D (colorless) to Z (pale yellow hue). Colorless diamonds are the rarest and therefore the most valuable.

3- Cut (Size)

The cut of the diamond is crucial because it determines its ability to reflect light. A good cut will maximize the brilliance of the diamond.

4- Clarity

Clarity measures the presence of inclusions or flaws in a diamond. It is graded on a scale from FL (Flawless) to P2, with the purest diamonds being the rarest and most expensive.

The 5th C: Certification

In addition to the 4 Cs, certification is an essential criterion when purchasing a diamond. A certificate issued by a renowned gemological laboratory, such as GIA or HRD, guarantees the quality and authenticity of the stone. At LeDiamanti, all diamonds over 0.3 carats are accompanied by a certificate of this type.
